NEWS ARCHIVE

THERE'S A NEW SHERIFF IN TOWN!

Many outsiders think the president is the one who runs the club... Just like the US of A, NOT SO. Seasoned veterans know that the Newsletter Editor holds all the power. Be on the lookout for this week's Advocate, the first effort by Liz Rookstool. Say goodbye to the days when you could slack-off Greg... She's watching you! (You can see her first edition, hot off the monitor, in The Advocate Online section of this web site)

GO BEARS!

Jeff Kasper has offered to drive up to four Rotarians to visit the Oakland #4 Club on November 29th. We will leave from Jeff's office at 11AM.

Why go to Oakland? Because the Cal Marching Band will be there before the "Big Game" Don't know what the "Big Game" is? Don't know what Cal is? Don't call Jeff. Otherwise, if you're interested, give Jeff a call and reserve your spot! RSVP's so far: Beri, Liz

TWO NEW PAUL HARRIS SOCIETY
MEMBERS INDUCTED!!!

To become a Paul Harris Fellow, a Rotarian must contribute a minimum of $1,000. (This is usually done through annual contributions - $100 for a sustaining and $200 for a double sustaining)

Stan was a busy man during his visit on October 17th. He had the honor of inducting the two newest Paul Harris Society members:

  • Greg Grassi
  • Beri Kasper

In case you're wondering, to become a member of the Paul Harris Society, you need to contribute $1,000 per year to The Rotary Foundation. Congratulations to Greg & Beri - and thank you for making the great works of The Rotary Foundation continue!

DG STAN SMALLEY VISITS CLUB

At the October 17th meeting, DG Smalley also recognized the club's newest Paul Harris Fellows:

  • Kathy Lafferty (her 1st)
  • Jeff Kasper (his 2nd)
  • Scott Singley (his 3rd!)
  • Dirk Wentling (his 4th!)

FOUR NEW PAUL HARRIS FELLOWS RECOGNIZED

On October 17, 2007 District Governor Stan Smalley paid a visit to our club. He met with the board of directors for over 90 minutes. During this grueling session, each of the assembled directors were grilled over their performance, while President Greg answered for them. Actually, the meeting went well, ending early, after each director illustrated their program of work.

After a few moments to recover their composure, the board assembled at the regular meeting for his presentation.

During his keynote, Smalley mentioned two of his key goals;

  • To have each Rotarian and Club do something they haven't done before. (No, it's not true that he suggested that the board leap from the Golden Gate Bridge) If you haven't attended a District Conference, attend the next one in Sacramento. If you haven't made your double-sustaining Paul Harris contribution, do that. The point is, do something.

  • Membership was also on his mind, expecting each Club in the District (there's 60+) to grow by at least one member this year.

Stan also encouraged all members and their families to attend the District Conference,
April 24-26, 2008 to be held at the Radisson Hotel in Sacramento. Sign up at the meeting, or click here for more info online.
