ONE BIG CHECK HELPS TWO GREAT ORGANIZATIONS! |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
At our April 5th meeting, one big was given
to Sister Ann of the Bay Area Crisis Nursery and Kathy Lafferty and the
president of her board from the Cambridge Community Center. The program was to be Sr. Ann giving us an update on the
ŇMiracle MakeoverÓ – where the nursery is scheduled to be demolished
and rebuilt in 12 days – and Kathy giving us a Cambridge update. However, in a rare moment of joviality, President Sam decided it would be more
entertaining to have the two fight over the check, and in essence, double
their money. Kathy may have
suspected that something may have been up, as she brought the president of
her board of directors with her.
However, given the tenacity of both leaders, the contest was called
off and Beri
wrote a separate check to each. |

3rd BLOOD DRIVE AT MDHS GREAT SUCCESS! Past
Prez John Newman organized
another blood drive at MDHS.
That makes three for this year alone! That means, along with the kids that actually gave their
blood, we helped save 200+ lives! APRIL
BIRTHDAYS HONORED (FINED) Happy
Birthday to our April babies: SAM VESSER (4/2) PAUL HARRIS (4/19) SAINT GREG GRASSI (4/19) PAT
KIEVNING (4/21) KAREN
MAHSHI (4/24) OPERATION ŇSAMÓ A SUCCESS! Thanks to everyone who contributed to Operation SAM
– the cards, DVDŐs and everything else are greatly appreciated and will
make some service men and womenŐs holidays special, even if they canŐt be
home with their families. 2,000 INDIVIDUALS IN CONCORD
HAVE A BETTER HOLIDAY THANKS TO CONCORD-DIABLO ROTARY! November 2005 alone, our actions have affected the
lives of over 500 families. (180
blood drive, 250 gift cards, 60 Cambridge, 40 Teen Challenge) Using the current US Census
statistics, that means close to 2,000 or more individuals. Thank goodness we were spending our time helping, and not
begging for people to serve. Any questions about the power of one Rotary
club? TEEN CHALLENGE GIVING TREE GIFTS A HUGE SUCCESS! Our club took on the Teen
Challenge Giving Tree, giving gifts for those in need. Two representatives from the
organization visited the club on December 7th to personally thank
all the members who made the programŐs residents dreams a reality. |

WAKAYAMA-WEST RC REUNION Renews Old Friendships! Jeff
& Beri Kasper were reunited
with 17 members of the Wakayama-West Rotary Club during the week of January 8th
-15th 2006. The
reunion was the brainchild of Mituteru Nishitani and Jeff Kasper. The cooked up the idea at the Rotary Convention
in Osaka in 2004. In
the past quarter-century that the sister club relations has existed, over 40
students have made their way across the ocean for a two to three week stay in
a different country.
Undoubtedly, these studentŐs lives have been enriched forever. Vocational Talk Schedule

The Four-Way Test Of the things we think, say
or do: 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and
BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4.
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all
concerned?" IN MEMORY It is with great sadness that we announce the
passing of Ned StilinovichŐs mother Anne, who passed away on April 4th. Funeral services were held on 4/10/06. We are also saddened to announce the passing of
charter member and past-president (1981-82) Frank Milliken on April 5th. No services are planned. Frank was awarded two patents for his inventions
and ran a number of successful business ventures in the area. He is survived by his wife of 21
