JOHN MUIR MEDICAL CENTER HEEDS CALL
 Aids TEPO with tons!

The following is a special report by Shahan Avakian, our Ňman is the streetÓ from the Mt. Diablo Campus of the John Muir Medical Center who is following the progress of The Ethiopian Philanthropic Organization for usÉ

We filled our truck - with some really incredible equipment* - in about 4 hours.  It would have gone faster, but we had to take the equipment from the 1st floor storage room down to the basement level in their regular elevators, then down a long corridor, and out onto a loading dock.  Luckily, most of the stuff was wheeled.

But Hospital staff helped us move the stuff, & had a lot of it already tagged and near the storage room exit door when we got there.  [*Including totally stainless steel surgical tables, still in great

condition; many types of moving chairs, for special types of patient needs, plus wheelchairs, & other smaller essentials.  We still have another truckload or 2 to pick up in the near future!]

COINCIDENCE, I THINK NOT!

This just in from our Reno, NV correspondent, Debra Lay:

True story... As I was going over the registration and birthdates of my horses I noted the following:

Sassy the American Paint Horse mare was 27 years old on March 17th, St. Patrick's Day.

My Bodega Bay, the Arabian mare will be 25 on Cinco de Mayo weekend

And, Sundance the Andalusia will be 9 on April 1st

– Imagine that, three horses, all born on three holidays!

3rd BLOOD DRIVE PLANNED AT MDHS

APRIL 6th VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Past Prez John Newman announced that we received a call from the Red Cross, and they need volunteers to staff the Blood Bus at Mt. Diablo High School.  This will be our 3rd Blood Drive at the school, and one canŐt help but wonder when the kids will run out of the stuff!

If this event is as successful as the last two, we should end up with 80 pints or so, which means at least 240 lives will be saved.  This doesnŐt count the almost 500 lives from the past two drives!   Let John know if you can help anytime between 8:30 – 2:30 PM.

OPERATION ŇSAMÓ A SUCCESS!

Thanks to everyone who contributed to Operation SAM – the cards, DVDŐs and everything else are greatly appreciated and will make some service men and womenŐs holidays special, even if they canŐt be home with their families.

2,000 INDIVIDUALS IN CONCORD HAVE A BETTER HOLIDAY THANKS TO CONCORD-DIABLO ROTARY!

November 2005 alone, our actions have affected the lives of over 500 families.  (180 blood drive, 250 gift cards, 60 Cambridge, 40 Teen Challenge) Using the current US Census statistics, that means close to 2,000 or more individuals.  Thank goodness we were spending our time helping, and not begging for people to serve.

Any questions about the power of one Rotary club?

WAKAYAMA-WEST RC REUNION

Renews Old Friendships!

Jeff & Beri Kasper were reunited with 17 members of the Wakayama-West Rotary Club during the week of January 8th -15th  2006.

The reunion was the brainchild of Mituteru Nishitani and Jeff Kasper. The cooked up the idea at the Rotary Convention in Osaka in 2004.

In the past quarter-century that the sister club relations has existed, over 40 students have made their way across the ocean for a two to three week stay in a different country.  Undoubtedly, these studentŐs lives have been enriched forever.

TEEN CHALLENGE GIVING TREE GIFTS A HUGE SUCCESS!

Our club cleaned up the tree, taking all the ornaments from the Teen Challenge Giving Tree, and exchanging them for real gifts for those in need in the program.  Two representatives from the organization visited the club on December 7th to personally thank all the members who made the programŐs residents dreams a reality.  Additionally, the organization sent over a thank-you DVD, which showed the many recipients of our contribution enjoying a great Christmas.  Congratulations on a job well done! .

The Four-Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:

   1.     Is it the TRUTH?

   2.     Is it FAIR to all concerned?

   3.     Will it build GOODWILL and

           BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

   4.    Will it be BENEFICIAL to all

           concerned?"

LETTERS, WE GET LETTERS!

Many of you knew my partner Jerry Clark and how much he loved his puppies, Bo and Sassy.  They are now nine years old.  Teri Clark is moving to Nebraska and sadly cannot take them with her.  They are her babies and she has asked me to see if I knew anyone who may be able to give them a good home.   It would be best if they could stay together but if not, they can be separated.  They weigh about 17 lbs and are Bichon Havanese breed.  So if you know of any good homes, please let me know.  I would take them but as most of you know, I already have 4 LARGE dogs and they wouldn't be happy with them.  Bo is a real love but Sassy is a little more distant.  She will be by your side but isn't a real cuddler like Bo.  Let me know if you know of any good homes that my be interested in them.

Thanks!

Betty Larson
