At
last weekŐs meeting, lead by Prez-to-Be Matt Chan, members in attendance learned a great deal about
the world of Rotary and where we fit in. Matt
shared 2006-07 International President W.B. (Bill) BoydŐs emphasis for his
year; water management, literacy, health and hunger, and the family of Rotary. Matt
also shared incoming International Chair Dan PetersonŐs research for projects in 2006-07. Most popular with the group was a
joint project with Club Rotario La Puntilla District 4400. This project would include the
deployment of latrines and water filtration systems in a poor area of
Guayaquil, Ecuador. Dan also has
relatives who are in Rotary (or Rotario) Clubs in this project, so we have a built-in connection. Stay tuned
for more details! |

WENTLING FLIPS FOR FLAPJACKS! Past Prez Dirk Wentling has offered to
chair this yearŐs July 4th Pancake Breakfast! Dirk has already been hard at work,
securing the best griddles for master ChefŐs Dan Peterson & Fred
McCarl. This year, we will pre-sell tickets, in
addition to on-site sales.
Congratulations! Each
member of the Club has already purchased 5 tickets! (If you donŐt remember
buying, or canŐt eat 5 breakfasts, sell them to friends!) BACCHUS STARTS WITH A BANG! Chair Jeff Kasper announced that
letters had already gone out to 100 previous and potential donors for auction
prizes. Additionally, committees
are forming and a list will be available at the 3/29 meeting as well. |

2nd BLOOD DRIVE AT MDHS JANUARY 19th A SUCCESS! Thanks to Volunteers! As
you may recall, the blood drive at Mt. Diablo High School on November 17th
was very successful. Over 80 Seniors signed up to donate life. Of those, approximately 60 were
eligible. That means we helped
save 180 lives! Not bad work for just a few short hours! Congratulations
to Past Prez John Newman who
coordinated volunteers to staff another drive at the school on January 19th. MARCH
BIRTHDAYS HONORED (FINED) Happy
Birthday to our March babies: SHAHAN
AVAKIAN (3/22) DEAN
HART (3/30) OPERATION ŇSAMÓ A SUCCESS! Thanks to everyone who contributed to Operation SAM
– the cards, DVDŐs and everything else are greatly appreciated and will
make some service men and womenŐs holidays special, even if they canŐt be
home with their families. 2,000 INDIVIDUALS IN CONCORD
HAVE A BETTER HOLIDAY THANKS TO CONCORD-DIABLO ROTARY! November 2005 alone, our actions have affected the
lives of over 500 families. (180
blood drive, 250 gift cards, 60 Cambridge, 40 Teen Challenge) Using the current US Census
statistics, that means close to 2,000 or more individuals. Thank goodness we were spending our time helping, and not
begging for people to serve. Any questions about the power of one Rotary club? |

WAKAYAMA-WEST RC REUNION Renews Old Friendships! Jeff
& Beri Kasper were reunited
with 17 members of the Wakayama-West Rotary Club during the week of January 8th
-15th 2006. The
reunion was the brainchild of Mituteru Nishitani and Jeff Kasper. The cooked up the idea at the Rotary Convention
in Osaka in 2004. In
the past quarter-century that the sister club relations has existed, over 40
students have made their way across the ocean for a two to three week stay in
a different country.
Undoubtedly, these studentŐs lives have been enriched forever. Vocational Talk Schedule

Singley TEEN CHALLENGE GIVING TREE GIFTS A HUGE SUCCESS! Our club cleaned up the
tree, taking all the ornaments from the Teen Challenge Giving Tree, and exchanging
them for real gifts for those in need in the program. Two representatives from the
organization visited the club on December 7th to personally thank
all the members who made the programŐs residents dreams a reality. Additionally, the organization sent
over a thank-you DVD, which showed the many recipients of our contribution
enjoying a great Christmas.
Congratulations on a job well done! . CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR PAUL HARRIS FELLOWSHIP
DOUBLE SUSTAINERS! Each of these members have either already contributed
(or promised to contribute) $200 towards their 2006 Paul Harris Sustaining
