SEASON OF GIVING BRINGS JOY! Cambridge Celebration Marred By Santa Swap! |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Capping off the holiday season, the Club ventured offsite
to visit the Cambridge Community Center. This annual event, which many members consider a highlight
of their holiday season, features the presentation of gifts to children who
attend the pre-school. (Over 50 this year!) After Santa personally hands each child their own gift,
the Rotarians then enjoy a luncheon prepared by the parents of the
children. The club, in turn,
donates our usual lunch cost to the center. The food this year was exceptional, as always! Many different nationalities were
represented on the culinary front.
Of course, there was more than enough food for the members of the club
in attendance. In a shocking turn of events, our favorite Santa, Rick
Silvester, turned
up with pink eye on the day of the event. Jeff Kasper personally inspected him to make sure that they werenÕt
just bloodshot and then stepped in to play Santa for the day. We do look forward to Rick returning to the role next year. Thanks to Theresa
Azevedo for all
her hard work organizing this event, including the purchase of gifts,
wrapping party coordination, that went so smoothly. |

BLOOD DRIVE SLATED AT MDHS JANUARY 19th Volunteers
Needed! As
you may recall, the blood drive at Mt. Diablo High School on November 17th
was very successful. Over 80 Seniors signed up to donate life. Of those, approximately 60 were
eligible. That means we helped
save 180 lives! Not bad work for just a few short hours! Now
itÕs time for a command performance!
John Newman is
coordinating volunteers to staff another drive at the school on January 19th.
We need a total of at least six people to accept a two-hour shift.
Thanks to Beri Kasper, who already stepped up to the plate! Contact John with your time
preference. CLUB RECEIVES HOLIDAY GREETINGS FROM WAKAYAMA
WEST ROTARY CLUB We received a greeting
card and a copy of The Rotary-No-Tomo (in English) which is RotaryÕs
publication in Japan. We also
mailed a card to their club and sent a copy of the Contra Costa Times Rotary
insert. SHOP ONLINE AND BENEFIT THE ROTARY FOUNDATION If you like to shop
online, donÕt before visiting the CareClicks.com link at Rotary
InternationalÕs web site: http://www.rotary.org/shopping/careclicks.html By
using this link, Rotary will get a percentage of your purchases, without it
costing you a dime! |

CASHIER HELP NEEDED! Calling
all members who can count! We need your help cashiering! Please let Beri know what days you will be able to help out! Thanks to Philip Arndt & Dan Peterson who have already stepped up to the plate for
January 11th and January 25th. We
can only assume that if you donÕt volunteer, you are mathematically
challenged. This would make you
a perfect candidate for President-Elect next year! OPERATION ÒSAMÓ A SUCCESS! Thanks to everyone who
contributed to Operation SAM – the cards, DVDÕs and everything else are
greatly appreciated and will make some service men and womenÕs holidays
special, even if they canÕt be home with their families. 2,000 INDIVIDUALS IN CONCORD HAVE A BETTER
HOLIDAY THANKS TO CONCORD-DIABLO ROTARY! November
2005 alone, our actions have affected the lives of over 500 families. (180
blood drive, 250 gift cards, 60 Cambridge, 40 Teen Challenge) Using the current US Census statistics, that
means close to 2,000 or more individuals. Thank goodness we were
spending our time helping, and not begging for people to serve. Any questions about the
power of one Rotary club? CLUB LEADERSHIP COUNCIL TO BE HELD IN ANTIOCH ON
JANYARY 17th Mark your calendar for
January 17th, which will be the next District Leadership
Conference. The conference is
open to all Concord-Diablo Rotarians, and is without cost to you. Please see Sam Vesser if youÕre able
to attend. |

Singley TEEN CHALLENGE GIVING TREE GIFTS A HUGE SUCCESS! Our club cleaned up the
tree, taking all the ornaments from the Teen Challenge Giving Tree, and
exchanging them for real gifts for those in need in the program. Two representatives from the
organization visited the club on December 7th to personally thank
all the members who made the programÕs residents dreams a reality. Congratulations on a job well done! . LIVING WILL A man and his wife were sitting in the living
room and he said to her, "Just so you know, I never want to live in a
vegetative state, dependent on some machine and fluids from a bottle.
If that ever happens, just pull the plug." A few moments later,
his wife got up, unplugged the TV and threw out all of his beer. JANUARY BIRTHDAYS HONORED (FINED) Happy Birthday to our New YearÕs babies: Debora Lay (1/1) Nancy Glenfield (1/13) Erin McGregor (1/16) Larry McFall (1/19) Fred McCarl (1/25) |

DONÕT MISS A MEETING! If you miss a meeting, here are some nearby Rotary Clubs
that can help you keep your 100% attendance and meet new friends:
You can get the details of
each clubÕs meeting place and download a copy at the clubÕs web site: www.CDRotary.org MEN ARE JUST HAPPIER PEOPLE What do you
expect from such simple creatures? Your last name stays put. The garage is
all yours. The world is your
urinal. You never have to drive to another gas station restroom because this
one is just too icky. People never
stare at your chest when you're talking to them. The occasional
well-rendered belch is practically expected. Phone
conversations are over in 30 seconds flat. You get extra
credit for the slightest act of thoughtfulness. Your underwear is
$8.95 for a three-pack. Your belly
usually hides your big hips. You have freedom
of choice concerning growing a mustache. You can do
Christmas shopping for 25 relatives on December 24 in 25 minutes. No wonder men are
happier. |
