ELECTIONS A CLEAN SWEEP!

Grassi gives nod to Hart in 2008!

In a not-so-surprising move, the entire slate of proposed officers was unanimously approved by the members in attendance.  PE Greg tried to slip in a quick nomination of Dean Hart for president-elect nominee.  The motion was seconded by Fred McCarl.  Greg assured Dean that the motion had been cleared with a call potential first wife Kathie.

Deano was smart enough to ask a few questions. It was then learned that when the call was made, either Kathie wasnÕt at home or couldnÕt come to the phone.  Furthermore, it sounded like the question may have been asked in a foreign language, with the caveat that if the caller didnÕt hear back in 5 minutes, we would presume her consent.

At last word, Kathie was furiously studying how to say ÒnoÓ in 93 different languages, just in case the call is made again next year!

BLOOD DRIVE AT MDHS NOVEMBER 17th

MORE BLOODY THAN EXPECTED!

The blood drive at Mt. Diablo High School on November 17th was very successful. Over 80 Seniors signed up to donate life.  Of those, approximately 60 were eligible.  That means we helped save 180 lives! Not bad work for just a few short hours!

2,000 INDIVIDUALS IN CONCORD HAVE A BETTER HOLIDAY THANKS TO CONCORD-DIABLO ROTARY!

November 2005 alone, our actions have affected the lives of over 500 families.  (180 blood drive, 250 gift cards, 60 Cambridge, 40 Teen Challenge) Using the current US Census statistics, that means close to 2,000 or more individuals.  Thank goodness we were spending our time helping, and not begging for people to serve.

Any questions about the power of one Rotary club?

BILL ME, BILL YOU

You should have received your two bills for your Rotary dues and lunches.  Please pay them as soon as possible.

TEEN CHALLENGE GIVING TREE GIFTS A HUGE SUCCESS!

Our club cleaned up the tree, taking all the ornaments from the Teen Challenge Giving Tree, and exchanging them for real gifts for those in need in the program.  Two representatives from the organization visited the club on December 7th to personally thank all the members who made the programÕs residents dreams a reality.  Congratulations on a job well done! .

LIVING WILL

A man and his wife were sitting in the living room and he said to her, "Just so you know, I never want to live in a  vegetative state, dependent on some machine and fluids from a bottle. If that ever happens, just pull the plug."

A few moments later, his wife got up, unplugged the TV and threw out all of his beer.

PEARL HARBOR HEROES

MAKE A GREAT MEETING!

On December 14th, a total of seven Pearl Harbor  survivors visited the club and shared their recollections of that fateful day, 64 years ago.

Some of the men were just waking up, while others were getting ready to catch the launch to the harbor from Ford Island.  One thing was for sure, they werenÕt expecting an attack.  It was clear from their fascinating tales that it was an event that would stay with them a lifetime.

GOOD HORSEY!

Special correspondent Debra Lay has filed the following update, from Òdown on the farm.Ó

Sundance was racing around like a wild man when I called him in to me.  He is supposed to stop right in front of my hand.  As you can see he only missed by about 10 inches, considering how fast he was going was pretty good.  Looking at the picture, I think my hand is a little farther forward than I usually have it.  This is a good conformation shot of him.

It was really something to see all the members in attendance mesmerized as each survivor recounted their participation.

Special thanks to these real life heroes who took the time to share a bit of themselves and a bit of history with those of us who were lucky enough to be with them!
