BLUE BADGES ABOUND! Three ÒRed BadgersÓ Now Blue! |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Congratulations
to Maureen Kilmurray, Shahan
Avakian, and Theresa Azevedo who were awarded their permanent Blue Badges at
WednesdayÕs meeting. All
three were rendered speechless, as President Sam rattled off the dozens of
tasks required for them to earn the coveted badge of honor. Just
a few of the tasks required to earn the ÒBlue Badge of CourageÓ include
attending a board meeting, joining a committee, bringing a guest, making up
at another club, and just added this year; washing the presidentÕs car,
painting the presidential palace (inside and out), and weeding his yard. Congratulations
to all, especially Shahan, who did it for the second time around (the first
being Pleasant Hill). |

Now,
you guys can look forward to your ÒsilverÓ badge in about 30 yearsÉ

KASPER VOLUNTEERS TO CHAIR BACCHUS! In
a surprise announcement (or a weak moment), Jeff Kasper volunteered to chair
the 2006 Raucous Bacchus fundraiser. HeÕll
be looking for form the committee in early January, so you might want to get
your wish for an assignment in early! The
dateÕs been set, September 22, 2006 at the Pleasant Hill Recreation
Center. It will be a hard act to
follow this yearÕs success, but by starting early, we can do it! RJ NATAL ACCEPTS RICHMOND POSITION ItÕs
with very mixed emotions that we announce that RJ Natal has accepted a
position with the Richmond YMCA.
As some of our readers may know, RJ was seeking other opportunities in
the area because his position with the Y had been eliminated. WeÕre happy to hear that RJ found a
good job in the area, but will miss him very much. SHOP ONLINE AND BENEFIT THE ROTARY FOUNDATION If you like to shop

OPERATION ÒSAMÓ IN FULL SWING
GENERAL NEWMAN SAYS Thanks to everyone who
contributed to Operation SAM – the cards, DVDÕs and everything else are
greatly appreciated and will make some service men and womenÕs holidays
special, even if they canÕt be home with their families. ALOHA ROTARY! As some of you may recall,
Beri Kasper won a trip to HawaiÕi at last yearÕs YMCA BoosterÕs
fundraiser. As the clock ticked
down, she was able to find some time to sneak away before the prize expired. Joined by husband Jeff, and Greg
& Lois Grassi, they headed off for a week on Kauai. Although it was an action
packed week, they still found time to make up at a Rotary meeting, where they
discovered Richard Lueck, from Clayton Valley – Concord Sunrise was
also making up!

Singley WAKAYAMA / JAPAN REUNION SLATED JAN. 8th
- 15th A very special Hawaiian
meeting is slated to take place from January 8th – 15th
on the island of Maui, HawaiÕi.
Approximately 20 members of the Wakayama West RC will be flying to the
islands and staying at the Westin Maui.
Jeff & Beri have
already booked their flights and hotel rooms. What a great chance to catch a few rays and renew old (and
in some cases new) friendships. Airfare is CHEAP! For about $400 per person on Hawaiian
Airlines, you can get to Maui.
Think about it, you couldnÕt drive there for that price! If youÕre interested in going, let
Jeff for Beri know ASAP. We
might be able to put together a package deal with the hotel.
Thinking
back to the week of October26th, and the Rotary Family Reunion, where we were
joined by John Leykhan (who was
voted back into the Club on the spot as he offered to write a Club history)
and Mats ÒWallioÓ Wallin, who
displayed his new title of US Citizen, with great pride. |

DONÕT MISS A MEETING! If you miss a meeting, here are some nearby Rotary Clubs
that can help you keep your 100% attendance and meet new friends:
You can get the details of
each clubÕs meeting place and download a copy at the clubÕs web site: www.CDRotary.org John also took a few
moments to tell us about the changes since his term as president in the
1980Õs, when he was the Editor of the, then daily, Concord Transcript. He also shared the very
personal battle heÕs waged against cancer the past year or so. Thanks to Mats and John,
it was great to see you both! |
