RENO TRAIN TRIP BACK ON! AMTRACK Rescinds Cancellation! |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Great
News! The fabled Reno Train Trip
is back on for 2006! Greg Grassi
will be attending a special information dinner to get all the details, but
mark your calendar for January 22nd & 23rd for this
fun event. Last
yearÕs trip was cancelled at the last minute, and it appeared that AMTRACK
wasnÕt interested in chartering a train in 2006. However, according to back room secret Òwhistle blowersÓ,
reportedly close to the current New York Times CIA scandal, pressure from
many Rotarians came to bear full-force on the ÒindependentÓ government run
agency. With
all the pressure on them, it appears that AMTRACK management remembered that
they were in the PASSENGER train business. Once this was straightened out, they changed their tune. |

KASPER VOLUNTEERS TO CHAIR BACCHUS! In
a surprise announcement (or a weak moment), Jeff Kasper volunteered to chair
the 2006 Raucous Bacchus fundraiser. HeÕll
be looking for form the committee in early January, so you might want to get
your wish for an assignment in early! The
dateÕs been set, September 22, 2006 at the Pleasant Hill Recreation
Center. It will be a hard act to
follow this yearÕs success, but by starting early, we can do it! RJ NATAL ACCEPTS RICHMOND POSITION ItÕs
with very mixed emotions that we announce that RJ Natal has accepted a
position with the Richmond YMCA.
As some of our readers may know, RJ was seeking other opportunities in
the area because his position with the Y had been eliminated. WeÕre happy to hear that RJ found a
good job in the area, but will miss him very much. HOSPITAL TALK Two little kids are in a hospital, lying on stretchers next to
each other outside the operating room.
The first kid leans over and asks, "What are you in here
for?"
The second kid says, "I'm in here to get my
tonsils out and I'm a little nervous."
The first kid says, "You've got nothing to worry about.
I had that done when I was four. They put you to sleep, and when you wake up
they give you lots of Jell-o and ice cream. It's a
breeze."
The second kid then asks, "What are you here
for?"
The first kid says, "A
circumcision."
"Whoa!Ó the second kid replies.
"Good luck buddy. I had that done when I was born. Couldn't walk
for a year."

- 15th A very special Hawaiian
meeting is slated to take place from January 8th – 15th
on the island of Maui, HawaiÕi.
Approximately 20 members of the Wakayama West RC will be flying to the
islands and staying at the Westin Maui.
Jeff & Beri have
already booked their flights and hotel rooms. What a great chance to catch a few rays and renew old (and
in some cases new) friendships. Airfare is CHEAP! For about $400 per person on Hawaiian
Airlines, you can get to Maui.
Think about it, you couldnÕt drive there for that price! If youÕre interested in going, let
Jeff for Beri know ASAP. We
might be able to put together a package deal with the hotel.
AND THE 2 CUPS OF COFFEE. When
things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day
are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee. A
professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of
him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty
mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the
students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. The
professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He
shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the
golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed
that it was. The
professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course,
the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full.
The students responded with a unanimous "yes." The
professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured
the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between
the sand. The students laughed.
"Now,"
said the professor as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize
that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things-- |

DONÕT MISS A MEETING! If you miss a meeting, here are some nearby Rotary Clubs
that can help you keep your 100% attendance and meet new friends:
You can get the details of
each clubÕs meeting place and download a copy at the clubÕs web site: www.CDRotary.org God,
your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite
passions--and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life
would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your
job, your house and your car. The sand is everything else--the small
stuff."
"If
you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no
room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend
all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the
things that are important to you. "Pay
attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your
children. Take time to get medical
checkups. Take your spouse out to
dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix
the disposal. Take
care of the golf balls first--the things that really matter. Set your
priorities. The rest is just sand."
One of the students raised
her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled.
"I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full
your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a
friend."
