BAUCCHUS ROCKS!

Sellout Crowd Makes Event Raucous Success!

If you missed Raucous Bacchus this year, you really missed a great event!  As usual, it all came together in a thundering cloud of success.  With only 20 confirmed seats on Monday, the sweat was pouring from the brow of the committee.   By Wednesday, we were sold out!

Not only did people come, but they spent money, too.  A lot of money!  Early estimates show that we netted $15,000 from the auctions alone!  Additionally, $4,500 was raised for Katrina / Rita relief!

Don Novello, as Father Guido Sarducci, kept the crowd in stiches after dinner.  Most of us had never gotten this close of a look at the inside of the Vatican.  This reporter can surely attest that he will never look the same at a lawn chair again.

Thank you to everyone who helped to make the event such a success!  HatÕs off to chairperson Kathy Lafferty, Decorations chair Theresa Azevedo, Wine chair Joe Bechelli, Auction chair Nancy Glenfield, Spotlight chair ÒDa MayorÓ Laura Hoffmeister Auctioneer Dennis McCormac, and the rest of the committee for a job well done.

Special recognition goes to Michael Barrington, president of the Concord club, who not only donated a case of wine from his private cellar, but also hosted TWO TABLES of guests!

AUNT CAROL

The teacher gave her fifth grade class an assignment: Get their parents to tell them a story with a moral at the end of it.

The next day the kids came back and one by one began to tell their stories.

"Johnny, do you have a story to share? "Yes, ma'am, my daddy told a story about my Aunt Carol.  Aunt Carol was a pilot in Desert Storm and her plane got hit.

She had to bail out over enemy territory and all she had was a small flask of whiskey, a pistol and a survival knife.

She drank the whiskey on the way down so it wouldn't fall into enemy hands and then her parachute landed right in the middle of twenty enemy soldiers.

She shot fifteen of them with the gun until she ran out of bullets, killed four more with the knife, until the blade broke and then she killed the last one with her bare hands."

"Good heavens," said the horrified teacher, "What kind of moral did your daddy teach you from that horrible story?"

"Stay the hell away from Aunt Carol when she's been drinking."

CV SUNRISE SPONSORS E-WASTE AT CHRONICLE PAVILION

The Rotary Club of Clayton Valley/Concord Sunrise, in conjunction with Got E-Waste Inc., a State certified recycler, is sponsoring a hazardous electronic equipment recycling event on October 7 th, 8th & 9th at Concord's Chronicle Pavilion. This event is being billed as the largest E-Recycling event ever held in California. E-waste is a popular, informal name for electronic products at or nearing the end of their "useful life."  Computers, televisions, VCRs, stereos, copiers, and fax machines are common electronic products.

Many of these products can be reused, refurbished, or recycled.  Unfortunately, these electronic discards often find their way to our landfills and destroy our environment with toxic waste and heavy metals. Items will be accepted working or not at this drop off location include: Computers, Toner Cartridges, Computer Monitors, Telephone Equipment, Computer Components, Cellular Phones, Keyboards/Mouses, (Not Mice) Power Supplies, Printers, DVD Players, Fax/Copy Machines, Laptops, VCRs, TV's, I-Pods, Electronic Cords & Cables.

This recycling event is FREE to California residents.  The public is encouraged to bring all their E-Waste items to this drop off location.  There is no limit as to how much any person or business can bring. The gates will be open on Friday, October 7th from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  On Saturday October 8th & Sunday, October 9th the gates will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

WAKAYAMA / JAPAN REUNION SLATED JAN. 8th - 15th

A very special Hawaiian meeting is slated to take place from January 8th – 15th on the island of Maui, HawaiÕi.  Approximately 20 members of the Wakayama West RC will be flying to the islands and staying at the Westin Maui.  Jeff & Beri have already booked their flights and hotel rooms.  What a great chance to catch a few rays and renew old (and in some cases new) friendships.

Airfare is CHEAP!  For about $400 per person on Hawaiian Airlines, you can get to Maui.  Think about it, you couldnÕt drive there for that price!  If youÕre interested in going, let Jeff for Beri know ASAP.  We might be able to put together a package deal with the hotel.

NANCY GLENFIELD NAMED ROTARIAN OF THE MONTH!

In an announcement made in September, President Sam announced that Nancy Glenfield was the Rotarian of the Month.

He cited her tireless efforts to bring the auction items together for Raucous Bacchus and the many other things she has done for the club as just a few examples of her service above self.  Congratulations Nancy!
