DISTRICT GOVERNOR VISITS CLUB!

ÒHeÕs the best DG since I took office!Ó

    President Sam ÒTeacherÕs PetÓ Vesser

With great pomp and circumstance, the District GovernorÕs motorcade arrived at the Concord Crowne Plaza Hotel at 10:27 AM this morning.

Always punctual, DG Brian Thiessen arrived for an early morning session with most of the Board of Directors of the Club.  This reporter can only speculate that those board members absent did not pass the rigid security screening necessary to meet with him.  Or, perhaps, they were still enjoying a pat-down search a little too long.

According to the official District Website, Brian will meet privately with the board to find out what really makes the club tick.  HeÕs looking forward to hearing reports from the chairs as to their plan of work for this year.  The meeting is scheduled to last approximately 7 minutes.

After the meeting, he will be transported through a secure hallway to meet with members of our Club before the luncheon meeting begins.

As our featured speaker, the District Governor will deliver a very special message, crafted just for our Club, and the 60 or so others in the District. (This reporter has obtained an advance copy and confirmed that it does not start withÉ ÒIÕve never had to remove a Club from Rotary beforeÉÓ)

ItÕs also anticipated that he will encourage all within his view to attend the District Conference / Meeting on October 21st & 22nd at the Hilton Concord.  There are many fun events planned and he will share some insight on the internal working of the District with us.  You can find out more about the conference and how to sign up inside this edition of The Advocate.

After lunch, BrianÕs motorcade will leave, escorted by a member of the Concord PD if he drives too fast near the speed trap at Diamond and Concord Ave.

YOUR BLOOD CAN SAVE A LIFE!

At last weekÕs meeting Nancy Glenfield sent out a friendly reminder that our Blood Drive is slated for Saturday, August 20th.  Nancy has reserved spots for us, and can get more.  The blood supply is very low and each of us who are eligible needs to do their part.  In the event that youÕre not eligible to give blood, encourage someone who is to take a few moments and give the gift of life!

Al has offered to contribute $1 for each pint of blood donated to the Club!  Even better, if you become an aphaeresis donor, Al will chip in $5!!!

Finally, an anonymous note from one of the wait staff at the Crowne Plaza: ÒI would like to say thank you so much to all that are willing to give blood donations.  My son, Cliff, is one of the recipients of Blood Platelets.  Since he was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer last year.  He is doing much better now.  Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!Ó

Any questions?  Get out there and roll up your sleeves!  Contact Nancy Glenfield if you need more information.

A RAINMAN, CAVEMAN &

A DOCHTERMAN SET TO KEYNOTE DISTRICT MEETING!

DG Brian Thiessen announced that he will have ÒCave ManÓ Al Mathis, ÒRain ManÓ Kim Peek and Past RI President Cliff Dochterman as keynote speakers October 21st & 22nd at the District Meeting.  ThereÕs no excuse for you not to attend, as itÕs at the Concord Hilton!  This will be an action-packed couple of days!  The DG has asked us to sponsor a tennis event, but Sammy the Nanny thought Bocce might be more his speed.  Jeff Kasper offered to lead a group to the top of Mt. Diablo in his Yukon.

Past Prez John then got up and, in a loud voice, mentioned that the first 10 people to sign up at the meeting July 20th, would have their $75 registration fee paid for in full!!! Hands were flying faster than in the back seat at the drive-in movie!  In the end, those that have not attended a district meeting and those who got good grades on their homework were compedÉ  All the rest can go to www.Rotary5160.org to download registration.

WAKAYAMA / JAPAN MEETING SLATED JAN. 8th - 15th

A very special Hawaiian meeting is slated to take place from January 8th – 15th on the island of Maui, HawaiÕi.  Approximately 20 members of the Wakayama West RC will be flying to the islands and staying at the Westin Maui.  Jeff & Beri have already booked their flights and hotel rooms.  What a great chance to catch a few rays and renew old (and in some cases new) friendships.

Airfare is CHEAP!  For about $400 per person on Hawaiian Airlines, you can get to Maui.  Think about it, you couldnÕt drive there for that price!  If youÕre interested in going, let Jeff for Beri know ASAP.  We might be able to put together a package deal with the hotel.

CLUB COMMITTEES FILLING UP FAST

ThereÕs a lot of work to do and everyone needs to help out in their multiple areas of interest.

If there are any holes in the committees, the board will fill them at the next board meeting.  (Remember, the board may think youÕre interested in other things that you are)
