YUKO LEVITATES, AMANDA ÒCHANGEDÓ BY JAPAN
EXPERIENCE! |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Yuko
Inaba was literally swept off her
feet as she was brought up to the stage at the California Magic Dinner
Theater in Martinez last Saturday night.
On
Friday night, the KasperÕs, GrassiÕs and AzevedoÕs joined Yuko for dinner at SuwaÕs in downtown Concord. Special thanks to last yearÕs exchange student, Mark
Azevedo, who has offered to join
many of the trips. After dinner,
it was time for a little DDR and Karaoke at the KasperÕs. |
|
Our
returning exchange student, Amanda Wentling, will join Yuko to tell us about her experiences
today. It
appears that Amanda has been having a great time with her Japanese
hosts.
Everyone
will have at least one last chance to hang with Yuko at the ice cream
social in her honor on Friday,
August 12th, at the
AzevedoÕs, starting at 6PM. (If
you donÕt know their address, you can find it in the Òmembers onlyÓ section.) |

YOUR BLOOD CAN SAVE A LIFE! At
last weekÕs meeting Nancy Glenfield sent out a friendly reminder that our Blood
Drive is slated for Saturday,
August 20th. Nancy has reserved spots for us, and
can get more. The blood supply
is very low and each of us who are eligible needs to do their part. In the event that youÕre not eligible
to give blood, encourage someone who is to take a few moments and give the
gift of life! Al
has offered to contribute $1 for each pint of blood donated to the Club! Even better, if you become an
aphaeresis donor, Al will chip in $5!!! Finally,
an anonymous note from one of the wait staff at the Crowne Plaza: ÒI
would like to say thank you so much to all that are willing to give blood
donations. My son, Cliff, is one
of the recipients of Blood Platelets.
Since he was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer last year. He is doing much better now. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!Ó Any
questions? Get out there and
roll up your sleeves! Contact
Nancy Glenfield if you need more information. INTERACT MEETING SLATED FOR AUGUST 21st A special meeting for those interested in Interact (as in
the club weÕ reworking on getting started at Concord High) is set for Sunday,
August 21st in Danville.
The meeting will start at 5:00 pm and should last about 2 hours. Food will be available. Please contact Heather Hougey at 925-429-3696 to let her

DIRK NAMED ROTARIAN OF THE MONTH! President Sam started a new tradition by thanking DIRK
WENTLING for his efforts this
month – primarily in the July 4th event and also for the
Wakayama exchange. Way
to go, Dirk. A RAINMAN, CAVEMAN & A DOCHTERMAN SET TO KEYNOTE DISTRICT MEETING! DG
Brian Thiessen announced that
he will have ÒCave ManÓ Al Mathis, ÒRain ManÓ Kim Peek and Past RI President Cliff Dochterman as keynote speakers October 21st
& 22nd at the
District Meeting. ThereÕs no
excuse for you not to attend, as itÕs at the Concord Hilton! This
will be an action-packed couple of days! The DG has asked us to sponsor a tennis event, but Sammy
the Nanny thought Bocce might be more his speed. Jeff Kasper offered to lead a group to the top of Mt.
Diablo in his Yukon. Past
Prez John then got up and, in a loud voice, mentioned that the first 10
people to sign up at the meeting July 20th, would have their $75
registration fee paid for in full!!! Hands were flying faster than in the
back seat at the drive-in movie!
In the end, those that have not attended a district meeting and those
who got good grades on their homework were compedÉ All the rest can go to www.Rotary5160.org to download
registration. NOW IS THE TIME TO GET BACCHUS DONATIONS! DonÕt
forget to continue to solicit donations fro Raucous Bacchus! Any business you use is a potential
vendor. DonÕt know what to say?

ROTARY ÒTABÓ AVAILABLE! Thanks to all those
members who participated in the Centennial Rotary ÒTabÓ insert into the
Contra Costa Times. President
Sammy, brought about 200 or so for members to use to spread the good word of
Rotary. The insert carries
information about a number of different activities of the Rotary clubs in our
area. Thanks to our members who
also kicked in $$, we also had a ½ page ad to promote our club. Why not pick one up each
week and give it to a prospective Rotarian as you invite them to lunch? CLUB COMMITTEES FILLING UP FAST At the last meeting, the clubÕs committee sign up sheets were
unveiled. ThereÕs a lot of work
to do and everyone needs to help out in their multiple areas of interest. If there are any holes in
the committees, the board will fill them at the next board meeting. (Remember, the board may think youÕre
interested in other things that you are) DONÕT MISS A MEETING! If you miss a meeting, here are some nearby Rotary Clubs
that can help you keep your 100% attendance and meet new friends:
You can get the details of
each clubÕs meeting place and download a copy at the clubÕs web site: www.CDRotary.org |
