A RAINMAN, CAVEMAN & DOCHTERMAN SET TO KEYNOTE DISTRICT MEETING!

DG Brian Thiessen announced that he will have ÒCave ManÓ Al Mathis, ÒRain ManÓ Kim Peek and Past RI President Cliff Dochterman as keynote speakers October 21st & 22nd at the District Meeting.  ThereÕs no excuse for you not to attend, as itÕs at the Concord Hilton!  This will be an action-packed couple of days!  The DG has asked us to sponsor a tennis event, but Sammy the Nanny thought Bocce might be more his speed.  Jeff Kasper offered to lead a group to the top of Mt. Diablo in his Yukon.

Past Prez John then got up and, in a loud voice, mentioned that the first 10 people to sign up at the meeting July 20th, would have their $75 registration fee paid for in full!!! Hands were flying faster than in the back seat at the drive-in movie!  In the end, those that have not attended a district meeting and those who got good grades on their homework were compedÉ  All the rest can go to www.Rotary5160.org to download registration.

YUKO INABA,

WAKAYAMA EXCHANGE STUDENT

ARRIVES AUGUST 1ST

Mark your calendars now for Yuko Inaba, our Wakayama Exchange StudentÕs arrival at SFO at 9:30AM on August 1st.  SheÕs 20 years old and we need to firm up accommodations and activities for her during the time sheÕs here. Thanks to those of you who have already signed up, but we still have holes to fill.

Several members have expressed an interest in meeting her at the airport, which is always a lot of fun.

Theresa Azevedo has set up a calendar for the visit.  A link is available at www.CDRotary.org

RECORD ATTENDANCE AT BOARD MEETING TUESDAY NIGHT

In testimony to the power of a good meal, 13 members were in attendance at the board meeting July 19th.  Conspicuously missing was Jeff Kasper, who was held hostage in the BART parking lot by a dead battery.

President Sam brought the near capacity crowd to order and proceeded to the business of the day.  Beri Kasper ordered delicious burritos for the attendees to keep their energy high.  The meeting lasted under 90 minutes, with an early adjournment due to multiple anticipated gas leaks.

KAREN MASHI EXPOSED!

HIJINKS SHOWN ON COVER OF NATIONAL MAGAZINE!

In a shocking announcement at the meeting of July 13th, Karen Mahshi announced that she was now a cover girl of a national magazine.

Rumors persist that Karen was forced into the revelation because of pressures from the National Enquirer threatening to expose her hijinks!

Actually, congratulations to Karen!  Her beautiful quilt is featured on the COVER of the most recent issue of the American Rose Society's national magazine!  Finally, a member who appears on the cover of a national magazine that we can show our children!

NOW IS THE TIME TO GET BACCHUS DONATIONS!

DonÕt forget to continue to solicit donations fro Raucous Bacchus!  Any business you use is a potential vendor. DonÕt know what to say?  Download a standard letter at www.CDRotary.org

FRED SEEN CROSSING BORDER – MORE GRANDCHILDREN IN HIS FUTURE???

On July 20th, Fast Freddie McCarl confessed to seeing is son and daughter in lawÕs beautiful new home in Oregon.  He also went for a bike ride and had a swell time.  Now that son and wifey are all settled in, Fred is predicting it will be time to add the pitter patter of little feet to the abode.

Congrats to the whole McCarl family for encouraging OregonÕs population boom!

JOHN PRESENTS NEW GAVEL

John Newman presented a new gavel to Prez Sammy at the July 13th meeting.  The beautiful engraved gavel replaces the old oak one that John beat to mere twig during his term.   This is a special Centennial Gavel, inscribed with our club name and, frankly, almost too beautiful for words.

MENTORS NEEDED!

Shani OÕNeal from the school district stopped by to ask for any assistance we can give to find mentors for young people in our community.  These are teens who need a positive role model in their life.  It doesnÕt need to take up a lot of time, so if youÕre interested, please call her at 925-688-6132.

CLUB COMMITTEES FILLING UP FAST

At the last meeting, the clubÕs committee sign up sheets were unveiled.  ThereÕs a lot of work to do and everyone needs to help out in their multiple areas of interest.

If there are any holes in the committees, the board will fill them at the next board meeting.  (Remember, the board may think youÕre interested in other things that you are)

FAST LIVINGÉ

The couple had been debating the purchase of a new auto for weeks.

He wanted a new truck.

She wanted a fast little sports-like car so she could zip through traffic around town.

He would probably have settled on any beat up old truck, but everything she seemed to like was way out of their price range.

"Look !" she said. "I want something that goes from 0
to 200 in 4 seconds or  less. And my birthday is coming up.  You could surprise me."

For her birthday, he bought her a brand new bathroom
scale.

Funeral services are pending

AMANDA WENTLING GETS

BIG $ENDOFF!

Amanda Wentling, stopped by the club on July 13th to ÒofficiallyÓ thank us for sending her to Japan.

She told us about how she looked at this adventure as a great opportunity.

Her talk was so compelling that the members were moved in ways never seen!  The hat was passed to give her some yen to spend.

When it was all counted up, members tossed a whopping $338!  Way to go!

ROTARY ÒTABÓ AVAILABLE!

Thanks to all those members who participated in the Centennial Rotary ÒTabÓ insert into the Contra Costa Times.  President Sammy, brought about 200 or so for members to use to spread the good word of Rotary.

The insert carries information about a number of different activities of the Rotary clubs in our area.  Thanks to our members who also kicked in $$, we also had a ½ page ad to promote our club.

Why not pick one up each week and give it to a prospective Rotarian as you invite them to lunch?
