MEETING ATTENDANCE INCREASES!
Is
It The Speakers Or JoeyÕs Aubrey Update?
Almost record crowds (sort of) were in attendance at last
weekÕs meeting to hear about Bo MorseÕs adventures in Venezuela.
And a gripping tale of intrigue and international fellowship
as she acted as the Rotaplast TeamÕs Photo Journalist! She shared many photos and anecdotes
from the trip. Many members
expressed an interest in possibly joining a future mission. The cost is reasonable – about
$1,000 or so. If you want to sign
up, just go to CDRotary.org and download the handy sign-up form!
This week we are honored to welcome former Concord resident
and Kiwanis International District Governor Patti Barsotti as our guest speaker. Patti will be sharing tips on
building membership in service organizations to help us get things moving!
SPEAKING OF
MOVEMENTSÉ
Proud Grandpa Joey
Bechelli reported that his pre-mee
granddaughter, Aubrey, was more
regular than he was again this week. Her
fantastic movements must have stirred great emotion, or something, as Joe
actually produced a recap for The Advocate. So, without further adieuÉ
5-25-05
In a truly boring display of bemusement, alacrity and
rudeness, our King
Jeffie
continued to show his lack of concern for the rest of the C/D Rotary Club by
pasting Bechelli
material all over the front page of the Advocate for the fourth week in a
row. The masses roared their unanimous approval, however, when our
erstwhile editor assistant refused to rise to the bait and refused to explain
the breach of confidence perpetrated by KJ in printing an advance photo of our
Rotary Club's new summer retreat house.
Guests included Matt ____, Beri SkiÕs new chiropractor,
Maureen Kilmourey, librarian, and Shahan..., Morgan Stanley guy...; Garry Moore of Bryant & Moore; Tom
Conrad the
Cambridge guy
Rotarians included John the auction guy, Bo the speaker lady; and
John announced the conclusion of the Jackson White program, and let us know that
he will be coming home on 5/26 via special air arrangements made through the Taylor
Family Foundation.
Thanks to Elaine Taylor and special thanks to John for an extreme makeover of the White
home. We do hope to hear more from the family after Jackson
recovers from this ordeal.
Jeffie knocked our socks off by announcing that RI has
accepted the grant request for Ecuador projects. Under the 3H umbrella
(health, humanity and hunger), the projects will include sanitation, mobile
health clinics and plastics to make prosthetics.
$300,000 will be earmarked, so this is a major project. Concord
Rotary is the
lead in this endeavor, so our hats are off to a job well done! Stay tuned
for more info.
July 4th pancake breakfast is on target, and Dirk promises to iron out any
wrinkles we may have had last year. Mark off Monday, July 4th
for a great day of club service.
Raucous Bacchus is moving along, thanks to some
great organization by Kathy Lafferty. Get those requests out for donations as
auction items, raffle prizes, etc. Jeffie is going to strike gold with a
great entertainer -- guaranteed!!
Bo "darling" ___ showed us what it takes to
really help people on an international scale. She went to Venezuela with Rotaplast
International doctors, nurses and helpers to perform surgery on 85 children and
adults with cleft palates and related disorders. The results were
truly inspiring, and Bo's energy filled the air. Great job to Bo, and what a meeting, John!
NEW MEMBERSHIP TEAMS ANNOUNCED!
At the May 18th meeting, new membership teams -- effective
immediately -- were announced by the Czar of Golf & Membership, Scott Singley.
Our goal is simple. Bring Rotary to one new person per
team in the next year. The winning team, and their new Rotarians will be
treated to a delicious dinner, paid for by the other members of the Club.
Here's the roundup of the teams -- get cracking!

THE TRUE
MEANING OF SERVICE! At
one time in my life, I thought I had a handle on the meaning of the word
-"SERVICE."
"The act of doing things for other people."
Then I heard these terms:
Civil Service
Postal Service
Customer Service
Telephone Service
Internal Revenue Service
City/County Public Service
And I became confused about the word "service." This is not what I thought
"service" meant.
Then I overheard 2 farmers talking, and one said he had hired a bull to
"service" a few of his cows.
BAM!! It hit me, now I understand what all those "service"
agencies are doing to us.
I hope you are now as enlightened as I am.
